$5 of Gas
This one isn’t really a game, but it lives in the arcade anyway.
$5 of Gas answers one question: how far does $5 of fuel get you? Pick a town, set your MPG, and choose a month from the past. The map draws two areas on real roads, one for how far $5 gets you at today’s price and one for how far it got you then.
Prices come from the EIA’s weekly retail averages, going back to 1990 for gas and 1994 for diesel. When a state doesn’t have its own price, the app uses the regional average. The road areas are precomputed for about 380 towns across every state and DC.
